Product details

Background & context

From the mid-1930s the R35 replaced the ageing FT-17 and came off the line in large numbers. Up to 43 mm of armour made it hard to defeat from the front, but it remained slow, and the short 37mm gun struggled against modern targets. A crew of two meant that the commander in the cramped turret had to load, aim and lead at the same time. After the campaign in the West the vehicles turned up again in German, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Bulgarian and Yugoslav stocks.

On the tabletop

The Renault R35 is a small infantry tank, well armoured for the early war with up to 43 mm of steel, and fits French lists for 1940. It is slow, but its job was supporting infantry anyway: with its short 37 mm gun and machine gun it accompanies your squads as they advance. Besides France, its users included Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia. A metal tank crewman is included.
