    Background & context

    Rupert wurde 1619 in Prag geboren, als sein Vater Friedrich V. gerade die böhmische Krone annahm; ein Jahr später war die Familie im Exil. Mit 14 zog er im Dreißigjährigen Krieg ins Feld, geriet in kaiserliche Gefangenschaft und kam 1642 nach England, um für seinen Onkel Karl I. zu reiten. Seine Attacken warfen bei Edgehill und Chalgrove Field alles um, was ihm gegenüberstand, nur ließen sich die Reiter danach kaum wieder einsammeln. Sein Hund Boye galt den Parlamentspamphleten als teuflischer Vertrauter und fiel 1644 bei Marston Moor.

    On the tabletop

    Prince Rupert leads the cavalry of your Royalist army in Pike & Shotte, accompanied by his dog Boye. His charges swept the enemy aside at Edgehill and Chalgrove Field, but afterwards his troopers were hard to bring back, so on the table your first blow has to count. Up to Marston Moor in 1644, where Boye was killed, his career offers plenty of scenarios. Rider and dog are metal.
