Product details

Background & context

Between the Swedish wars and the Deluge of the 1650s the Polish foot changed visibly. The arquebus of the old haiduk companies disappeared, and in its place came the musket of western pattern, complete with bandolier and German drill. Hired colonels brought the craft with them, and the Sejm paid for it, when it paid at all. By the end of the century the Commonwealth's infantry looked far more like its opponents in Saxony and Brandenburg than it had a hundred years earlier.

On the tabletop

These eight musketeers taking aim form the front, firing rank of your later Polish-Lithuanian infantry in Pike & Shotte. In the decades around 1650 the Western musket replaced the old arquebus of the hajduks, and these figures show the new armament. With shooters like these, the Commonwealth's infantry mainly supported its own cavalry. Complete them with musketeers reloading and the command group.
