Background & context

Der 81-mm-Mörser war die Standard-Unterstützungswaffe fast jeder Infanterie des Zweiten Weltkriegs, und Polen übernahm ihn wie alle anderen auch. In der polnischen Gliederung standen die Rohre bei der schweren MG-Kompanie des Bataillons und wurden von dort gebündelt eingesetzt. In kurzer Zeit brachte eine solche Gruppe erstaunlich viele Granaten ins Ziel, ideal, um einen Angriff schon im Anmarsch zu zerschlagen. So hatte auch eine zahlenmäßig unterlegene Verteidigung ein Mittel, den Gegner auf Abstand zu halten.

On the tabletop

In the Polish army of 1939, the 81 mm mortars belonged to the battalion's heavy machine gun company and were used together. In your Bolt Action list the team fires indirectly over hills and houses and breaks up an enemy attack before it reaches your line. It is just as effective against infantry in trenches. The three crew figures sit well next to a heavy machine gun team.
