Product details

Background & context

A Pike & Shotte regiment combined pikemen for close-combat protection with musketeers for firepower. These formations were characteristic of the Thirty Years' War and the English Civil War. The generic plastic kit is therefore suitable for several early modern European conflict contexts.

On the tabletop

A 17th century regiment has a block of pikemen in the centre and a wing of musketeers on each side, and that is exactly how you build the 40 figures for Pike & Shotte. The musketeers wear the enemy down with their slow fire while the pikes protect them from cavalry charges. The regiment fits the Thirty Years War as well as the English Civil Wars between Royalists and Parliament. Several such units can be grouped together into a brigade.
