Product details

Background & context

A 17th-century regiment was not led by shouted orders but by signals that could be seen and heard. The drum passed on the marching pace and commands, the colour showed everyone where the unit stood, and the sergeant with partisan or halberd kept the ranks closed from behind and drove stragglers forward. Together these roles kept a body of several hundred men in formation - exactly what a command base represents on the gaming table.

On the tabletop

An officer, a drummer, a standard bearer and a sergeant with a polearm form the command base of another regiment of your army in Pike & Shotte, and the flagstaff comes as a sturdy steel pin. Historically the drum set the pace and passed on orders, the flag was the rallying point and the sergeant closed the ranks from behind. On the table you can recognise each regiment by its own command group.
