Background & context

Ein englisches Regiment bestand aus mehreren Kompanien, und jede führte ihre eigene Fahne - abgeleitet von der Farbe des Obersten, unterschieden durch Zeichen, deren Zahl mit dem Dienstrang stieg. Auf dem Tisch entspricht eine Kommandobasis genau dieser Kompanie-Ebene. Im Dreißigjährigen Krieg lief es ähnlich, nur kamen dort Verbände aus halb Europa unter einem Feldherrn zusammen und die Fahne war oft die einzige verlässliche Auskunft darüber, wer da anmarschierte.

On the tabletop

This command group lets you set a second regiment of your army apart from the first in Pike & Shotte: an officer, a drummer, an ensign with a standard and a sergeant with a polearm, plus a steel pin as a flagstaff. On the table it stands on the command base of your regiment. Historically every company of an English regiment carried its own flag in the colonel's colour, with devices that showed the rank of its captain.
