Product details

Background & context

Pigs were among the most important animals on European farms, as they turned kitchen scraps into meat for the winter. Even small holdings often kept one or two in a pen of their own. Passing armies prized such stock: Napoleonic troops largely lived off the land, and in the Second World War livestock was requisitioned in occupied territories as well.

On the tabletop

Place the pen next to a stable or barn, where it breaks up the farmyard. In play it counts as decoration, but you can use it as an enclosure that figures have to walk around. With animal figures inside, the farm comes to life without slowing the game. In World War II it suits farms in France, Italy or Eastern Europe, in the gunpowder era farmsteads behind the lines.
