Background & context

The RPD was developed in the Soviet Union towards the end of the Second World War and fires the 7.62 x 39 mm cartridge also used by the AK-47. Its 100-round belt sits in a drum under the gun. China built a copy as the Type 56, and both countries supplied the gun in large numbers to North Vietnam. In the People's Army and with the fighters of the National Liberation Front it served as the squad machine gun.

On the tabletop

The team forms the light machine gun of an NVA infantry squad. Both figures lie flat on the shared 60 mm base and suit positions in undergrowth, on a paddy field dike or along a tree line. Place the team at the edge of an ambush so it covers the road or trail while the riflemen of the squad move up. Superglue is all you need to assemble the resin parts.
