    Product details

    Background & context

In 1942 Ferdinand Porsche received the order for a breakthrough tank that every known anti-tank weapon was meant to fail against. The result was a vehicle with up to 220 mm of armour, carrying a 12.8 cm gun and a 7.5 cm gun side by side in the turret. Hardly any bridge could bear the weight, so the Maus was meant to cross rivers along the bottom using a snorkel. Series production was cancelled and the project never got beyond two prototypes. An example assembled from both stands today in the Kubinka tank museum near Moscow.

    On the tabletop

Weighing 188 tonnes, the Panzer VIII Maus remains the heaviest tank ever built, and it never got beyond two prototypes. In Bolt Action you can still field it, as a tank choice in the 1945 last levy force selector from Armies of Germany. There it is a super-heavy tank with a 12.8 cm gun, a coaxial 7.5 cm gun and a machine gun, very slow and extremely heavily armoured even on its sides. For what-if games it comes in resin and metal at 1:56.
