Product details

Background & context

Panzer Lehr got its name because the division was raised in 1943 from the training and demonstration units of the armoured troops schools: instructors who had learned their trade in the field themselves. It was the only large German formation in which all the Panzergrenadiers rode in half-tracks, which gave it enormous mobility on paper. In Normandy that advantage fell apart. In the bocage the division made hardly any progress, and it had no answer to the carpet bombing at Saint-Lô in July 1944. Brought back up to strength, it moved into the Ardennes and fought in the West until the end of the war.

On the tabletop

The ten metal figures represent a Panzergrenadier squad of the Panzer Lehr Division in Bolt Action, suited to games set in Normandy in 1944. Since all of the division's grenadiers rode in half-tracks, the squad works best together with an armoured half-track that carries it to the front. The division's tanks, such as a Tiger II, belong in the same list. The double-breasted assault gun style jacket sets the figures apart from ordinary army infantry.
