The Panhard 178 was the most advanced wheeled armoured vehicle of its time - the first mass-produced all-wheel-drive reconnaissance vehicle equipped with a 25 mm cannon and a coaxial machine gun. After the fall of France, the Wehrmacht took over large numbers of them and deployed them on the Eastern Front under the designation Panzerspähwagen P204(f).

Hintergrund & Einordnung

The Panhard 178 was one of the most advanced armored cars of its time and was originally developed for reconnaissance by the French cavalry. As the first mass-produced all-wheel drive armored vehicle of its class, it combined mobility with comparatively strong armament. After the fall of France, the Wehrmacht took over large numbers of these vehicles and deployed them on the Eastern Front under the name Panzerspähwagen P204(f). The Panhard 178 thus served on both sides of the war and left its mark on several European campaigns - from Norway, Belgium, and France to Barbarossa.

The Panhard 178 is a fast French reconnaissance vehicle that can also be used as a captured vehicle. In the game, it performs reconnaissance, flank protection, and light fire support. It is particularly strong thematically for early Western Front scenarios but can also appear in German captured or security lists.
