Product details

Background & context

A Polish cavalry banner, the chorągiew, was not a company in the western sense but a fellowship: every towarzysz brought his own retainers, horses and weapons, and so provided several riders at once. Among the Pancerni this fellowship was drawn from the middling nobility, wealthy enough for mail armour and good horses, not rich enough for the rank of the Winged Hussars. In numbers they were the strongest cavalry of the Commonwealth and the workhorse of every campaign.

On the tabletop

A complete pancerni regiment of eight riders, including officer, standard bearer and musician, comes in this pack along with a flag sheet and bases. In the Polish-Lithuanian army these mail-clad horsemen followed the winged hussars' charge and pushed into the gaps it had torn. In Pike & Shotte you send them against the enemy's flanks and use them to pursue fleeing units, covered by the fire of your hajduks.
