This command set represents the command group of the Pancerni cavalry of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Army. The three 28mm metal miniatures add leaders, standard bearer, and musician to heavy cavalry units for early modern Pike & Shotte battles.

Background & context

Die towarzysz pancerny ritten im 17. Jahrhundert noch im Kettenpanzer, als der Rest Europas längst auf Kürass und Feuerwaffe umgestellt hatte. Altmodisch sahen sie aus, gefährlich waren sie trotzdem: schnell genug für die Flanke, gut genug gerüstet fürs Handgemenge. Im polnischen Gefecht kamen sie meist nach den Flügelhusaren, rissen die angeschlagenen Reihen weiter auf und blieben den Fliehenden auf den Fersen. Wer eine solche Fahne führte, trug Standarte und Signal sichtbar mit sich.

On the tabletop

Leader, flag bearer and musician on horseback give your pancerni unit its command in Pike & Shotte. You place the three multi-part figures in mail at the head of the riders, making it clear on the table where the unit rallies. Together with packs A and B they complete a unit of Polish medium cavalry that rides into the gaps after the winged hussars have charged.
