Background & context

Vom 16. bis ins späte 17. Jahrhundert war das osmanische Geschützwesen das bestorganisierte Europas: eigene Gießereien, ein eigenes Artilleristenkorps, eigene Transportkolonnen. Im Feld gegen die polnisch-litauische Adelsrepublik trafen diese Batterien auf Husarenreiterei und befestigte Wagenburgen, etwa bei Chocim. Die leichteren Feldstücke folgten dem Heer auf dem Marsch, während die schweren Belagerungsrohre erst vor den Mauern aufgefahren wurden.

On the tabletop

Ottoman armies were famed for their artillery, and this field gun with three gunners gives your Pike & Shotte army a piece of its own. As a lighter field gun it marched with the army rather than waiting for sieges. Against Polish-Lithuanian opponents you fire on charging hussars or a fortified wagon laager, as happened at Chocim. Place it behind your infantry so enemy horsemen cannot reach the crew.
