Background & context

Cromwell war Landedelmann aus Huntingdon und hatte vor 1642 nie ein Kommando geführt. Sein in East Anglia angeworbener Reitertrupp wuchs zu einem doppelt starken Regiment, das durch harte Übung und strenge Führung zusammenhielt; die Royalisten selbst tauften diese Reiter Ironsides. Aus dieser Truppe wurde ab 1645 der Kern der New Model Army, mit der das Parlament den Krieg gewann. Später führte Cromwell als Lord Protector Feldzüge in Schottland und Irland und regierte mit seinen Generälen.

On the tabletop

Oliver Cromwell belongs at the head of the cavalry of your Parliamentarian army in Pike & Shotte. His troopers raised in East Anglia were held together by drill and strict leadership, and the Royalists called them Ironsides. On the table he leads your cavalry as a disciplined wing that rallies after a charge instead of galloping off. From 1645 his men formed the core of the New Model Army with which Parliament won the war. The mounted figure is metal.
