Armoured and unarmoured bodies, shooting and spanning poses, and a multitude of head and helmet options allow for very varied units. Arabised headwear also makes the set suitable for Andalusians, early crusaders, and other medieval settings.

    Background & context

    Die Armbrust war die unhöfische Waffe des Hochmittelalters: Sie durchschlug Kettenhemden, und das Zweite Laterankonzil verbot sie 1139 im Krieg unter Christen, ohne dass sich jemand lange daran gehalten hätte. Ihr Preis war die Zeit. Zwischen zwei Schüssen brauchte der Schütze mehrere Sekunden zum Spannen und in dieser Lücke einen Kameraden oder eine Deckung. Normannische Heere setzten sie von der Normandie über Süditalien bis in die Levante ein.

    On the tabletop

    Thirty-six crossbowmen give your Norman army missile troops whose bolts can punch through mail. Spanning the weapon takes time, so you place them behind cover or next to foot troops that protect them between shots. The poses show both steps, spanning and shooting, and half of the men wear armour. Heads and helmets with Arab-style headbands let you turn some of the figures into Andalusians or crossbowmen of a crusader army.
