    Description

Norman Archers contains twelve 28mm metal archers for Norman armies in Hail Caesar. The unit provides ranged support before heavy infantry or knights seek decisive close combat. The set thus adds an important light infantry component to Norman Dark Ages armies.

    Product details

    Background & context

Norman armies of the 11th century combined cavalry, infantry, and archers. At Hastings in 1066, Norman archers were part of William's army and put pressure on the Anglo-Saxon shield wall. Archers could disrupt enemy formations and weaken vulnerable targets before close combat. In a Norman force, they thus fulfilled a supporting, but tactically important role.

    On the tabletop

Twelve Norman archers open the fighting in Hail Caesar before your knights charge, and they are suitable for SAGA and Pillage too. At Hastings William's archers achieved little at first against the closed shield wall and only became dangerous once the Anglo-Saxons lost their order. You therefore use them against units that are already weakened, or keep the enemy under fire until your cavalry goes in.
