Sixty men of the Middle Guard in hard plastic, the formation between the Young and the Old Guard. Four officers, four standard bearers and four drummers lead 48 guardsmen in firing line and attack poses.

Background & context

The Middle Guard was the intermediate step: men with campaigns behind them, but without the ten years of service of the Old Guard. Napoleon used it as a shock reserve, held it back for a long time and then committed it as one body. Its last great appearance was the evening attack at Waterloo, when its battalions went up the slope against the British line and were thrown back. At that moment the battle turned.

On the tabletop

Sixty guardsmen represent the Fusilier-Chasseurs and Fusilier-Grenadiers of the Middle Guard and also suit other elite units of Napoleon in campaign dress. Four officers, four standard bearers and four drummers give you four command groups. The rank and file can be built firing and loading in line, in the march attack or advancing with levelled muskets. In play you hold the Guard back as a reserve and send it forward as a body when the decision is due.
