    Background & context

From 1812 the French army looked different from the paintings of Austerlitz. The capote greatcoat was worn constantly in the field, because the uniform underneath was to be saved for marching in and because Russia, Saxony and Belgium seldom offered mild weather. Behind this lay the state of the army as well: after the Russian campaign a large share of the battalions consisted of young conscripts who were clothed in a hurry and pushed to the front. At Waterloo entire divisions wore this coat and still marched in the same column formation as ten years before.

    On the tabletop

Wearing greatcoats instead of parade uniform, this line infantry marches through the campaigns from 1812 to Waterloo in 1815. From 24 plastic figures with parts for grenadiers and voltigeurs you build a battalion that advances quickly in column in Black Powder and then fires in line. Two officers, a drummer and a standard bearer in metal lead it. Its opponents are Russians and Prussians and finally the armies of Wellington and Blucher.
