Background & context

The Peninsular War was a decisive theater of the Napoleonic Wars. Following the French occupation from 1808, regular Spanish troops, guerrillas, and allied armies fought against Napoleon. The conflicts on the Iberian Peninsula tied up large French forces and influenced the further course of the war.

On the tabletop

Spanish foot batteries were equipped with the 8-pounder, and this set provides one such gun with four crew. A battery was supposed to have six guns but usually had only four, so a few packs are enough for a convincing battery in Black Powder. Because of the shortage of horses the guns were often drawn by mules and oxen. Alongside British troops or in sieges such as Zaragoza, the gun supports your Spanish infantry.
