Background & context

Prussia went into the Wars of Liberation in 1813 with a hastily raised army, and the artillery was the part that had stayed professional over the years. Foot guns were hauled onto favourable high ground before the battle and mostly stayed there, because moving them cost time that nobody had. Massed into batteries they covered the ground in front of their own line and forced the enemy to manoeuvre under fire. This pattern of Prussian artillery handling lasted until Waterloo.

On the tabletop

During assembly you choose whether this Prussian foot artillery gun becomes a 6- or a 12-pounder; four gunners are included. Foot artillery was brought into a favourable position before the battle and usually stayed there. In Black Powder you therefore place the battery on high ground with a clear view at the start and bombard the enemy before he reaches your line. For the Wars of Liberation from 1813 to Waterloo it supports Landwehr, line infantry and cavalry.
