Background & context

Michel Ney, Sohn eines Fassbinders aus dem Saarland, brachte es in zwanzig Jahren vom Husaren zum Marschall des Kaiserreichs. Den Beinamen 'der Tapferste der Tapferen' trug er, seit er 1812 die Nachhut des Rückzugs aus Russland führte und als einer der Letzten die Beresina hinter sich ließ. Bei Waterloo ritt er die großen Kavallerieangriffe gegen die britischen Karrees, ohne Infanterie zur Unterstützung. Die Restauration ließ ihn im Dezember 1815 erschießen.

Use Ney as a divisional or corps commander giving orders to his brigades, while the second rider serves as an aide-de-camp or as a brigade general in his own right. Historically Ney led the rearguard during the retreat from Russia in 1812 and the great cavalry charges against the British squares at Waterloo, both of which make fitting scenarios.
