Product details

Background & context

The Young Guard formed the numerically strongest pillar of Napoleon's Imperial Guard, eventually comprising well over a dozen regiments. Among them, the light infantry regiments of the Voltigeurs and Tirailleurs were among the most frequently deployed units. Compared to regular line infantry, the Guardsmen enjoyed noticeable privileges, but in return bore a significantly higher burden of expectation: steadfastness in the most dangerous sections of battle was considered a matter of course. Their fighting morale and personal loyalty to Napoleon made them a reliable instrument in the decisive phases of numerous campaigns.

On the tabletop

These eight metal figures add light infantry of the Imperial Guard to your French army in Black Powder. The voltigeurs and tirailleurs of the Young Guard skirmished ahead of the front instead of standing in close line. So you place them as a skirmish screen in front of your columns, wherever the fighting is thickest. For Waterloo they represent the troops who threw themselves against the advancing Prussians at Plancenoit in 1815.
