    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The Young Guard served as the junior contingent of Napoleon's famous Imperial Guard and grew to a considerable troop strength over the course of the Napoleonic Wars. Among its most renowned units were the light infantry regiments of the Tirailleurs and Voltigeurs, known for their mobility and fighting spirit. Despite their status as the youngest Guard formations, their members enjoyed significantly better conditions than the regular line infantry. The officers of these units bore a special responsibility: they had to personally lead their men into the most dangerous sections of the battlefield and maintain their morale under the harshest conditions.
