Product details

Background & context

In November 1809 a large Spanish army under General Areizaga marched on Madrid and was crushed by the French at Ocaña. That opened the way south: early in 1810 French troops occupied almost all of Andalusia, including Seville and Granada. Only Cádiz held out behind its defences and the sea, and it remained under siege until 1812. There the Cortes met and in 1812 passed Spain's first constitution.

On the tabletop

Not every battle in Spain was fought against Wellington. In the early years of the war the Spanish field armies were the main French opponent, with line regiments, grenadiers, cavalry and hastily raised militia. In Black Powder you can set up such an encounter with Glaza in a French battalion facing a larger Spanish army. It also gives your Spanish troops a reason to take the field.
