Product details

Background & context

After the reorganisation of 1808 a French line battalion had six companies, one of them voltigeurs who fought in open order ahead of the line. On the Peninsula they met British light infantry and riflemen whose rifled weapons outranged them. Clashes between these skirmish screens opened almost every battle, long before columns and lines came to grips.

On the tabletop

Several single figures from this range together make a small skirmish detachment. Gauthier and two or three other veterans on individual bases form a loose screen that fans out ahead of the column in Black Powder and keeps British riflemen busy. If you would rather fill out a battalion, he stands just as well in the ranks.
