Product details

Background & context

Supplies rarely reached the French troops in Spain. Uniforms wore out on the long marches, and the men replaced them with whatever the country offered: brown cloth from Spanish mills, trousers from captured material, forage caps instead of shakos. After a few campaigns many regiments looked little like the uniform plates from Paris, and the veterans of this range pick up exactly that look.

On the tabletop

With Durand the paint job deserves extra thought. Instead of spotless blue and white you can go for faded shades, brown local cloth and patched areas, as was common among troops after years on the Peninsula. In Black Powder you then place him in a French line battalion whose other figures you keep a little cleaner, so he stands out as an old campaigner.
