Product details

Background & context

Napoleon's line infantry was not so much elite as simply effective. A regiment consisted of several battalions, each with one grenadier company, one voltigeur company and several fusilier companies, which were mixed flexibly in action. The preferred way of fighting was in columns screened by a swarm of skirmishers, changing into line or square as soon as the situation demanded. This system could absorb rapid levies and short training times, and that was precisely the basis of the Grande Armée's striking power from Austerlitz through to the campaigns against Prussia, Austria and Russia.

On the tabletop

French line infantry carries the great battles against Russians, Austrians and Prussians in Black Powder, as well as the war on the Iberian Peninsula against the British, Spanish and Portuguese. On the sprue you decide whether grenadiers and voltigeurs join the battalion. The unit advances in column and holds its position in line or square. Two officers, a drummer and a standard bearer in metal lead the 20 plastic figures.
