Background & context

France's heavy cavalry was Napoleon's last argument in a battle: cuirassiers in steel cuirasses, carabiniers from 1810 in brass and white coats. They were held back for the moment when the enemy line was already wavering. At Waterloo that moment never came, and Ney's squadrons rode hour after hour against unbroken British squares. After 1815 the age of armoured cavalry in Europe was practically over.

On the tabletop

From the 14 riders you build French cuirassiers in steel armour or carabiniers, who wore brass and white coats from 1810. Both are heavy battle cavalry: you hold them back and commit them at the moment the enemy line is already wavering. Against unbroken squares, such as the British formed at Waterloo, even this cavalry stalls, so you need artillery and infantry to prepare the way.
