Hintergrund & Einordnung

The A12 Matilda II fought in France during the British retreat, presenting German troops with problems due to its strong armor. Warlord Games specifically states that German 37mm and 50mm anti-tank guns were too weak against its thick armor. In the Western Desert, the Matilda II became strongly associated with desert warfare, but there it encountered the 88mm guns of the Afrika Korps. Later, older vehicles were transferred to the Far East, where they were used against lighter Japanese tanks; Warlord describes it as the only British tank that remained active throughout the entire war.

In the game, the Matilda II Troop serves as a robust centerpiece or breakthrough unit. The tank draws enemy fire, supports infantry, and can pressure central table areas. In Bolt Action / Achtung Panzer! / Chain of Command, it is particularly useful when an army needs durability and a strong presence on an objective.
