Background & context

Trading places such as Hedeby, Dublin or Birka lived not from battles but from scales, barrels and haggling. A market there consisted of stalls that could be taken apart, folding tables and baskets that disappeared again in the evening - permanent booths were rare. All kinds of goods changed hands, from sacks of grain to pottery to slaves, and anyone raiding such a settlement was after exactly these stores. On the gaming table, wares like these make the difference between a backdrop and an inhabited place.

On the tabletop

Two market stalls, eight tables, four stools and plenty of small items let you build a trading place like Hedeby or Birka. Baskets, bread, cooking pots on tripods, beehives and furnaces also turn it into the supply area of a camp. The 12 barrels and 26 sacks fill the space around the stalls. In a Pillage scenario the market becomes the store one side raids and the other defends.
