Product details

Background & context

The M5 was the answer to a bottleneck: because the aircraft engines used in the M3 were running short, Cadillac fitted two production V8s complete with automatic transmission. The result ran more quietly, was easier to drive and, with the M5A1, gained a roomier turret and better-shaped armour. Between 1943 and 1945, 6,810 vehicles were built. By then the 37mm gun had long been too weak against German tanks, so the Stuart scouted, guarded supply routes and escorted infantry.

On the tabletop

With three M5 Stuarts you field a complete light tank platoon in Bolt Action, suitable for the USA as well as for British, Soviet and Chinese forces. Each vehicle can be built as an M5, as an M5A1 with reinforced front armour or as an E7-7 flamethrower, giving you a uniform platoon or one of each version. The Americans used light tanks rather than armoured cars for reconnaissance, and that is the platoon's job. Its 37 mm guns are not enough against late-war German tanks, but they deal with lighter vehicles. Stat cards, decals and damage markers are included, and Achtung Panzer! covers the M5 as well.
