    Background & context

    Die amerikanische Panzerjägerdoktrin setzte auf schnelle, dünn gepanzerte Wagen mit offenem Turm, doch gegen deutsche Panzerung reichte die Kanone des M10 ab 1944 nicht mehr. Die Lösung war eine umgebaute 90-mm-Flugabwehrkanone in einem neuen Turm. Weil die Türme schneller fertig wurden als passende Wannen, setzte man 187 davon kurzerhand auf Rümpfe des Kampfpanzers M4A3. Diese Zwitter trugen die Bezeichnung M36B1 und gingen Ende 1944 direkt an die Verbände in Europa.

    On the tabletop

    The M36B1 came about because 90 mm turrets were ready faster than suitable hulls: 187 of them were fitted to Sherman M4A3 hulls between October and December 1944. In Bolt Action it gives your American army one of the few vehicles able to destroy heavy German tanks at a distance. The open-topped turret saves weight and gives good observation but leaves the crew vulnerable, so find it a position at a distance from the enemy. It suits games in Europe from late 1944.
