Background & context

The British got the M3 first and sent around 170 of them into the desert in Operation Crusader in 1941. There it picked up the nickname Honey, because compared with everything else in the inventory it simply ran: fast, smooth and without being a permanent guest in the workshop tent. The 37mm gun was already too weak by 1942, so the Stuart was converted into a scout, sometimes without a turret, sometimes as a troop carrier. In December 1941 an M3 became the first American-crewed tank to meet an enemy.

On the tabletop

The box holds three M3 light tanks with crew, a complete light armoured platoon for Bolt Action; the M3 served with the USA, Britain, the Soviet Union and China. On each vehicle you choose a rounded or angular turret and fit machine guns, a flamethrower, extra fuel tanks or sand guards. In North Africa the platoon suits Operation Crusader in 1941, while from 1942 the British used the Stuart mainly for reconnaissance. In the jungle, for example on Guadalcanal, it proved itself against Japanese infantry.
