Beschreibung

The Linebacker is the evolution of the M2 Mudskipper - combat-proven, mobile, and boasting impressive armament. As a support walker for US Firefly troops, it combines an M21 Tesla Cannon arm with interchangeable secondary weapons and, thanks to its jump drive, can engage directly from reserve. The multi-part plastic kit allows for various armament configurations and comes with a transparent cockpit canopy.

Hintergrund & Einordnung

Following the disastrous airborne assault on Collegno in 1946, the weaknesses of the M2 Mudskipper as fire support for the Firefly jump infantry became evident. US engineers subsequently developed a comprehensive overhaul: The M2A5 received an M21 Tesla Cannon, universal weapon mounts for interchangeable secondary armaments, reinforced legs for high-speed landings, and a simplified one-person control system. Crews and Firefly soldiers quickly christened it "Linebacker." The walker made its combat debut in May 1947, when 200 units were brought to the front during the Siege of Stuttgart as part of Operation Valentine.
