    Background & context

    The Late Anglo-Saxons and Anglo-Danes represent the military world of England in the 10th and 11th centuries. Armoured Thegns formed the better-equipped upper class, while unarmoured Fyrdmen represented the broader local levy militia. The shield wall, spears, swords, and large axes characterised warfare during this era. The included monk and command figures are well-suited for scenarios involving Anglo-Saxon armies, Danish settlers, and the power struggles before and after the Viking Age.

    On the tabletop

    From 60 figures you build the foot of a late Anglo-Saxon English army, from the unarmoured fyrd with shield and spear to the thegns in mail. The command frames provide leaders, standard bearers, monks and armoured warriors that become Anglo-Danish huscarls when given Dane axes. Round and kite shields reflect the changes after the Danish conquest. For large battles such as Maldon or Hastings you form the shield wall, while smaller games such as SAGA need only part of the box.
