    Late Roman Cataphracts contains 16 riders with horses (plastic); 8 different horse head options. The included models are made of plastic and come as an unpainted tabletop kit. The cataphracts of the Late Roman Empire were the heaviest cavalry of their time - rider and horse completely encased in metal, horn, or leather scale armour.

    Background & context

    The cataphracts of the late Roman Empire were the heaviest cavalry of their time - rider and horse fully clad in scale armor made of metal, horn, or leather. The first Cataphractarii regiments were introduced under Emperor Trajan in the early 2nd century. Under Emperor Constantius II.

    On the tabletop

    With the 16 cataphracts, rider and horse are fully armoured, and the horse heads wear face guards and eye grilles. You build the kontos upright for the approach or lowered for the charge, while axes and swords hang from the saddle for the melee. In games they are the heaviest cavalry of your Late Roman army, slow but hard to stop once the charge lands. A draco bearer leads the unit against the Sassanids or other eastern foes.
