The cataphracts of the Late Roman Empire were the heaviest cavalry of their time - rider and horse completely encased in metal, horn, or leather scale armour.

    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The cataphracts of the late Roman Empire were the heaviest cavalry of their time - rider and horse fully clad in scale armor made of metal, horn, or leather. The first Cataphractarii regiments were introduced under Emperor Trajan in the early 2nd century. Under Emperor Constantius II.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    Late Roman Cataphracts are used in Hail Caesar, SAGA, Pillage, and Lion Rampant as heavily armored shock cavalry for Late Roman, Romano-British, or Gothic forces of the 4th-5th centuries. In the game, they threaten flanks and key objectives with high striking power but require good preparation and support. The unit is suitable for decisive attacks, not for scattered tasks or prolonged skirmishes in difficult terrain.
