Doppelsöldner were experienced Landsknechts who received higher pay for particularly dangerous tasks. Two-handed swordsmen and halberdiers were deployed in the front ranks or as detached special troops. The content fits the image of heavily armed Landsknechts in the Italian Wars and in early Pike & Shotte contexts.
