The walled farm of La Haye Sainte, bitterly fought over at Waterloo on 18 June 1815, in 13.5 mm scale. Five pre-painted HDF sections combine into the farmstead with house, stable, barn and gate wall.

Background & context

La Haye Sainte was a walled farm on the road from Charleroi to Brussels, directly in front of the centre of Wellington's position. On 18 June 1815 a battalion of German light infantry in British service under Major Georg Baring held it for hours against repeated French attacks. Only in the early evening, when their ammunition ran out, did the farm fall to the French. From there they could fire on the centre of the allied line at close range.

On the tabletop

Once assembled, the farm covers about 41.5 x 29.3 cm and sits as a solid bulwark in front of the centre of your battle line. In Waterloo scenarios you garrison house, barn and stable with infantry and let skirmishers hold the gate wall. As the floors lift off, several units can also be placed inside. The French side has to storm or bypass the farm to advance against the ridge of Mont-Saint-Jean.
