The men of the Kriegsmarine didn’t just fight at sea - from the first shots of the war in Danzig in 1939 to the desperate defence of Berlin in 1945, they stood on the front lines in their characteristic blue uniforms. The description "Blue Devils" by Welsh soldiers in Holland shows the respect these marine infantrymen earned as fighters.

Hintergrund & Einordnung

The Kriegsmarine was involved in the first and last land battles of World War II: in 1939, naval personnel stormed the Polish port of Danzig, and in 1945, they landed by seaplane in embattled Berlin, armed with Panzerschrecks against the advancing Soviet tanks. In between, naval units fought in Narvik, Russia, at Dieppe, Arnhem, in Holland, and in the cut-off German port garrisons. Their dark blue uniforms and reputation as tough fighters earned them the nickname "Blue Devils" from Welsh soldiers in Holland. The units were often led by their regular naval officers - a Corvette Captain or U-boat Commander at the head of an infantry unit was not uncommon.

Einsatz im Spiel

The Kriegsmarine unit can be used as a regular infantry troop in Bolt Action and is particularly suitable for thematic scenarios from the early war to the defense of the Reich. On the tabletop, they can be staged as unorthodox, motivated fighters - perfect for harbor defenses, rearguard actions, or urban scenarios in Berlin or Holland. Their striking blue appearance visually distinguishes them from regular Wehrmacht units and makes them an eye-catcher in any German army.
