Background & context

Die Regimenter des Königs zogen 1642 ohne einheitliche Uniform ins Feld. Woran man eine Einheit erkannte, war ihre Fahne: Jede Kompanie eines Fußregiments führte ein Tuch in der Farbe ihres Obristen, unterschieden durch kleine Zeichen, an denen sich sogar die Nummer der Kompanie ablesen ließ. Wer im Pulverqualm von Edgehill oder Naseby seinen Verband suchte, suchte das Tuch. Hinter jedem Motiv steckt ein reales Regiment - Northampton etwa fiel 1643 bei Hopton Heath.

For the King's army in Pike & Shotte, this sheet contains the Royal Standard, the colours of the regiments of Bagot, Bard, Northampton and Hopton, and a Clubmen banner. Place the Royal Standard with your general and the regimental colours with the foot regiments. Every design stands for a real regiment; the Earl of Northampton, for example, fell at Hopton Heath in 1643. Each flag comes pristine and battle-worn, so you choose how much war your regiment has already seen.
