Product details

Background & context

The Imperial Japanese Army made do with considerably less heavy equipment than its opponents and relied instead on well-drilled weapons teams. The Type 97 mortar and the Type 92 MG were robust, light enough for the jungle and to be found in almost every company. Discipline and loyalty were watched over by the Kempei-tei, the military police, whose men were feared in the ranks more than the enemy. Together that produced formations that long held the initiative in Malaya, Burma and the Philippines.

On the tabletop

This metal box provides the leadership and heavy weapons of a Japanese platoon in Bolt Action. The two officers with pistols lead your squads, and the Kempei-tei represents the dreaded military police who watched over discipline. The medic and the radio operator acting as spotter round out any rifle platoon. The medium mortar team fires in an arc at enemies behind cover, and the MMG team pins enemy infantry down with sustained fire. Historically the army relied on the Type 92 machine gun and the Type 97 mortar.
