Background & context

James Graham, Marquis of Montrose (1612-1650), gewann 1644 und 1645 in einem einzigen Feldzug sechs Schlachten gegen die Regierungsarmeen Schottlands - mit drei irischen Regimentern als Kern und Highland-Clans, die kamen und gingen, wie es ihnen passte. Sein eigentliches Talent lag darin, diesen zusammengewürfelten Haufen lange genug beisammenzuhalten. Nach der Niederlage bei Philiphaugh floh er auf den Kontinent, kehrte 1650 zurück und endete am Galgen in Edinburgh.

On the tabletop

Montrose, telescope in hand, leads your Scottish Royalists in Pike & Shotte as commander-in-chief. In a single campaign in 1644 and 1645 he won six battles against Scotland's government armies. His core was three Irish regiments, joined by Highland clans whose numbers came and went, so on the table you lead a mixed army he has to hold together. Scenarios include his victories as well as the defeat at Philiphaugh. The figure is metal.
