Hintergrund & Einordnung

Italy's paratroopers were considered elite units and were trained under conditions comparable to those of their regular soldiers - a characteristic that significantly shaped the relationship between officers and enlisted men. Officers usually led their units directly in combat, rather than directing from a safe distance. This leadership philosophy reflected the overall character of the Paracadutisti: mobile, aggressive, and designed for close cooperation. These units proved themselves repeatedly under difficult conditions in the North African and Mediterranean theaters of war.
