    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The Italian armed forces in World War II relied on a combination of light support weapons to compensate for the limited heavy armament of their infantry. The Solothurn anti-tank rifle was a special development, somewhere between a heavy single-shot weapon and a light anti-tank gun - its magazine allowed for a remarkable rate of fire for its class of up to 20 rounds per minute. As a sniper weapon, the Italian army used the Carcano carbine Model 1891, which, despite its small caliber, could be used effectively in experienced hands. The Brixia 45mm light mortar was considered a technically mature weapon system with a higher rate of fire than comparable weapons from other nations and above-average accuracy.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    Weapon support teams are indispensable components of a balanced lineup, as they force the enemy to constantly re-evaluate their priorities. The Solothurn team poses a serious threat to light vehicles and half-tracks, and keeps enemy tanks at bay. The Brixia mortar exposes enemy cover positions with indirect fire and is particularly effective in positional warfare and defensive scenarios. The sniper team provides area denial and ties up enemy units-ideal for the constricted battlefields of North Africa and the Italian theater.
