Background & context

Mussolini closed his speech announcing Italy's entry into the war in June 1940 with the slogan Vincere! E vinceremo! The Regio Esercito went on to fight in North Africa, the Balkans and Russia, often with First World War guns such as the 100/17, an Austrian design. The 47/32, nicknamed Elefantino, was the infantry's main anti-tank gun. Alongside the army fought the battalions of the fascist militia, the Blackshirts.

On the tabletop

Each of the four commanders can lead a platoon of his own. The 30 infantry with light machine guns fill one or more infantry platoons, the Elefantino and the 100/17 together form an artillery platoon, and the Breda and mortar make up a heavy weapons platoon. Add transport vehicles and the infantry can also be fielded as a motorised recce platoon. The anti-tank gun covers against armour, the howitzer shells positions from depth and the MMG keeps the enemy pinned.
