    Product details

    Background & context

At the beginning of World War II, the Italian Army did not have specialized assault engineer troops for attacking fortified positions. Only the observation of the German mobile warfare made the need for such units clear, whereupon the first Guastatori del Genio were established and trained at the end of 1940. Just a few months after their creation, these specialists were deployed in North Africa, and later also on the Eastern Front. In Sicily, the 11th Guastatori Battalion fought closely with the "Livorno" Division. These units combined classic engineering tasks with stormtrooper-like combat tactics and carried heavy specialized equipment such as flamethrowers and explosives to the front line.

    On the tabletop

Italy's assault engineers, the Guastatori del Genio, fought in North Africa from early 1941 and on the Eastern Front from mid-1942. In Bolt Action you send this group against bunkers, field fortifications and occupied houses. The two flamethrower teams have to get close for that, while the two engineers with bangalore torpedoes blast a way through obstacles. The NCO and three more riflemen give covering fire for the assault. For Sicily, the group fits alongside the Livorno Division.
