Hintergrund & Einordnung

The Italian armed forces participated in numerous campaigns in Europe, North Africa, and the Balkans during World War II. In addition to regular army units, units of the Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale, known as the Blackshirts, were also deployed. These troops reflect the military structure of Fascist Italy, which frequently fought under difficult logistical and material conditions.
