The Alpini - known as Le Penne Nere (The Black Feathers) after the black raven feather on their headdress - are the mountain infantry of the Italian Army and the world's oldest mountain specialists. In World War II, they fought in the Balkans, Greece, on the Eastern Front, and in East Africa, proving themselves to be a tough and battle-hardened force even in the most adverse combat situations.

Hintergrund & Einordnung

The Alpini were founded in 1872 by Royal Decree and are the oldest mountain specialists in the world. Their distinguishing mark is the black raven feather - Le Penne Nere - on their characteristic Alpini hat. In World War II, they fought in Albania, France, Greece, Yugoslavia, on the Eastern Front, and in East Africa. Their deployment on the Don Front became particularly notorious, where, contrary to their training as mountain fighters, they were deployed against Soviet tanks on the steppe - and yet managed to escape encirclement. After the armistice in 1943, parts of the Alpini fought on the side of the Allies, while others continued the fight under the RSI.

Einsatz im Spiel

The set allows you to build flexible Alpini squads with a wide selection of weapons: from the standard rifleman with a Carcano rifle to a Breda LMG team or a Beretta SMG bearer. The choice between steel helmet and Alpini cap makes the figures suitable for various scenarios - from mountain campaigns in the Balkans to the Eastern Front. As elite infantry, the Alpini bring good combat stats and are suitable as a core troop for a thematic Italian army in Bolt Action.
